MATCH & SCRATCH RACE
A TRAVELING INNOVATION
A great new feature of the past year is the MATCH & SCRATCH RACE: a traveling format that captures the sporting essence of IL GIRO DEI VENTI by concentrating it in a single day.
These are events held in different Italian cities on set dates in which participants compete in a cycling and sailing competition. I winners will have the opportunity to participate freely in the first available edition of IL GIRO DEI VENTI.
The first MATCH & SCRATCH RACE was held in Naples, in the picturesque setting of the waters of Mergellina. Sailors and cyclists competed in short but intense races. The sailors participated in 15-minute races at the headquarters of the Italian Naval League, while the cyclists tackled an 18-kilometer course in the Naples International Circuit in Sarno, SA. At the end of the respective competitions, teams were formed with the top four finishers in each category competing in a final thrilling MATCH RACE.
Given the competitive but collaboration-based nature and team spirit, the MATCH & SCRATCH RACE represent a great team building opportunity for companies. That is why from this year we have created a pathway that, starting from classroom training activities and aptitude tests dedicated to corporate teams, results precisely in participation in the MATCH & SCRATCH RACE.
We believe that this event is an engaging experience that is useful in fostering collaboration, communication and a sense of teamwork among participants. Spending a day together, away from work environments, allows you to face common challenges and build a solid and cohesive group.
MATCH RACE
HOW IT WORKS.
Sailors will face numerous short challenges lasting about 15 minutes on a fast and easy course, where teamwork and implementing a strategy that constantly adapts to the opponent’s moves, like a chess game that takes place on a body of water, will be key.
J22 boats are provided by the organization of IL GIRO DEI VENTI. Each boat will have four sailors on board. We register in pairs, the maximum number of participants is 32 (16 pairs).
The winning boat will participate in the final MATCH RACE IL GIRO DEI VENTI.
SCRATCH RACE
HOW IT WORKS.
The Scratch Race consists of a time trial of 8 laps for a total of 15 km. Cyclists will race in pairs, created following the results of a 1-lap (1900 mt) individual time trial held before the actual race.
The top two winning pairs will be decided by the sum of the placings of the individual pair members, and in the afternoon they will board a boat together with the winning sailors of the sailing races to participate in the final MATCH RACE IL GIRO DEI VENTI.

THE FINAL MATCH RACE IL GIRO DEI VENTI
The 4 cyclists and 4 sailors who have won the morning races will participate in the final MATCH RACE IL GIRO DEI VENTI in the afternoon.
HOW IT WORKS:
- Crews will be formed by drawing lots, each consisting of a pair of cyclists and a pair of sailors.
- The two crews will compete in a final MATCH RACE.
- The winning crew will be awarded the Match Race Trophy IL GIRO DEI VENTI.
